Q1. How do I make Fusion Reader speak?
A.
You must install a SAPI 5.0 TTS engine. See the Speech page.

Q2. The voice sounds awful. Is there any way to improve the voice?
A.
First of all make sure you are using a voice that is made for speaking the language of the text being displayed. If, for example, you are using the default voice (probably Microsoft Mike, Sam, or Mary) to speak Spanish language text it will sound really bad because these voices were developed for speaking English. If you are using a voice made for the language of the text and are still unsatisfied you should investigate purchasing a better voice from a third party (like www.Cepstral.com). See the Speech page for more information.

Q3. How do I get Fusion Reader to speak the text highlighted in the right-hand side pane?
A.
Fusion Reader only speaks the text on the left pane (when in side-by-side viewing) or top pane (when in "staked" viewing). You can however switch which side text is displayed on by clicking the "Switch Text" button.

Q4. Is there a way to select just a few words to be spoken? Is there a way to select several paragraphs to be spoken? Am I restricted to only getting the reader to speak a "translation unit" at a time?
A.
You can select any amount of text that appears on a screen to be spoken, without regard to the "translation unit" that is currently selected. To do so hold down the left mouse button as you drag the cursor across the word or words you would like spoken.

Q5. What is the red dot for?
A.
The red dot is your bookmark. The bookmark cannot be moved far in the text without your explicit approval. This helps prevent you from inadvertently loosing your place in the eBook. The highlighted text on the other hand can change pages and even chapters at a time without an "are you sure" message. You should usually keep Fusion Reader in "read" mode which causes the bookmark to follow the highlighted text as you navigate the eBook.

Q6. Is there a way to disable the "Are you sure?" message that appears whenever I want to move my bookmark to the highlighted text?
A.
Yes. Select the Preferences | Misc menu item to display the dialog which controls this feature.

Q7. Is there a way to copy text to the clipboard?
A.
You can configure Fusion Reader such that every time you hover over a word with the mouse that word is copied to the clipboard. Select the Preferences | Misc menu item to control this feature. You cannot copy more than a word at a time to the clipboard.

Q8. I downloaded the full eBook but is seems really short. Is this all there is?
A.
Most full eBooks are separated into chapters. You can navigate chapters by selecting a chapter from the Chapter menu or by using the navigation buttons. Scrolling only navigates the current chapter.
