Speech

If your computer is speech enabled Fusion Reader can speak the text in your Fusion eBook. A speech enabled computer will have SAPI 5 and one or more SAPI 5 voices installed.

Determining if Your Computer is Speech Enabled

If your computer is speech enabled the Speech toolbar button in Fusion Reader will appear in color (it won't be grayed out).

If you have not installed Fusion Reader and you want to check if your computer is speech enabled, open the Control Panel from the Start menu and look for the Speech Control Panel item:



If you don't have a Speech Control Panel item then your computer is not speech enabled.

Speech Enabling Your Computer

To speech enable your computer you will need to install SAPI 5 and one or more SAPI 5 voices. You can get SAPI 5 and several good voices from Cepstral (navigate to "Downloads - Other" for SAPI 5.) If you have Fusion Reader open while installing SAPI 5 voices you will need to reopen Fusion Reader for Fusion Reader to use the new voices.

Trying Out Voices

Assming you have SAPI 5 intalled, you can can try out your voices in Fusion Reader or the Speech Control Panel. To try your new voices in the Speech Control Panel open it and switch to the Text To Speech tab:



Select a voice in the Voice Selection drop-down box to hear a sample.

Acquiring a New Voice

Cepstral has several high quality voices for a resonable price. Try "Diane", "David", or "Millie" for English or "Miguel" for Spanish. After installing a new voice you will need to restart Fusion Reader to use the new voice.
